Every creator eventually asks the same question: should my link live in my bio, or should I deliver it in the DM? We pulled the click data from 2.1M DM-delivered links across ReplyKar accounts and compared them against typical bio-link benchmarks. The gap is not subtle.

Mobile link click analytics and click-through rate breakdown chart
Direct Message link delivery converts up to 5-10x higher than traditional bio links.

The numbers

  • Average click-through on DM-delivered links: 38–41%
  • Typical link-in-bio click-through (per profile visit): 2–8%
  • Conversion on DM-delivered offers (purchase/opt-in): 4–6x higher than the same offer from a bio link

Why the DM wins on intent

A bio link is a menu — visitors arrive with vague curiosity and bounce when they don't see their question answered. A DM link arrives attached to a specific promise someone asked for by commenting a keyword. The person clicking already decided what they want; the link is just the doorway. Context is the entire game.

Our bio link converted at 2% for the launch. The same offer, delivered by DM, converted at 41%. Same page, same product — different intent.

Where the bio still matters

This isn't a call to delete your bio link. New profile visitors, brand partnerships, and press still flow through it. Think of the bio link as your front door and DM links as personal invitations — you need both, but invitations convert better because they're expected, personal, and arrived after a raised hand.

  1. 1Use a branded domain (links.yourbrand.com) — plain-looking links feel safe and on-brand
  2. 2One page, one action per funnel — a link page with a single button beats a mini homepage
  3. 3Match the page to the promise: if the CTA said “free guide”, the page should say “free guide” above the fold
  4. 4Add urgency honestly: expiring codes and cohort deadlines beat fake countdown timers
  5. 5Track clicks per keyword so you know which funnels earn their place

The takeaway

If your growth motion runs through Instagram content, comment-to-DM link delivery is the highest-converting channel you can build this year. Keep the bio link for newcomers — but stop measuring it against DM funnels. They're not playing the same sport.
